The standard AT3600L is conical. And the LP Gear CFN3600LE is elliptical. Online commentary says that elliptical should be able to recover higher frequency better. And if so, will this show up in the frequency content of a recording?

I decided to try it out. And unfortunately, at best I saw no discernable high frequency extension from the CFN3600LE, or possibly less high frequency content. Both had tracking force at 2.5 grams. Skate dialed in to neutral. Pre-cleaning is spin clean, ultra sonic bath for 10 minutes, vacuum clean, then blow with can of compressed air right before going into the player (with dust cover down).

This is using a slower jazz track from Windham Hill Sampler '84. There is almost no difference. The AT3600L seemed like it was mostly just a little louder which makes the frequency response look slightly fuller.

This is Angel Of Harlem from U2's Rattle & Hum. Here the AT3600L looks to have better response between 16Khz and 18Khz.
