EAC read errors on CD-R, BD Drive vs DVD Drive

Tried to rip some discs that were burned on CD-R. Both of my Pioneer Bluray drives got a lot of errors. My Pioneer drives are my drives of choice when ripping CD's. But neither drive could handle these CD-R's. Put the discs in my slower LG GH24NS90 DVD drive and they read with zero issue.
